Blue Ribbon Plants is a family-run wholesale plant nursery with a year-round staff of 8 FTE, employing additional seasonal workers from March each year – up to 30 staff in total. We have a 13-acre production site with 5.6 acres under glass. The family also owns some 8.5 acres of adjoining land fronting the A286, previously used as a PYO, farm shop and cafe and which has recently seen the advent of pop-up plant sales – the only time we sell directly to the public.
Today we use modern machinery alongside the traditional growing methods established by our founder Walter Back (1933-2019). The growing team consists of Robert Back (Walter’s son), Inga (Rob’s wife) and Aivaras (Inga’s brother). The management team’s final member is Jan Devos (née Back) – Walter’s niece – who manages the business, legal, and administrative side of Blue Ribbon Plants.
On 1st April 2022 the business originally founded by Walter was transferred as a going concern to Blue Ribbon Plants Ltd.
